At age 32, Marlaine Cover was a married mother of two toddlers who failed at suicide and lost temporary custody. Today, she is the mother of an international consciousness movement that advocates proactive education for Life Skills used daily. Though she began her career working in development for higher education, Marlaine was frustrated with the disparity between the dynamic educational processes routinely afforded academics, sports and music and the comparatively passive process afforded for Life Skills.
One morning after hollering at her teenage daughter because she left for school without eating breakfast, Marlaine decided to “be the change”. That change began at her kitchen table where she created a communication tool she entitled, “The Life Skills Report Card.”
Marlaine formed Parenting 2.0 group on LinkedIn in 2009, to share the Life Skills Report Card and support collaboration of Life Skills professionals. That group today has over 8,000 members in more than 100 countries and is LinkedIn’s top ranked parenting group. Parenting 2.0 is also the host of the world’s only professional conference for Life Skills professionals, P20 Talks and their educational nonprofit, The Global Presence, is a registered 501(c)3 organization that has Ambassadors around the globe.
Marlaine published her book, Kissing the Mirror: Raising Humanity in the Twenty-first Century, in 2012 under the pen name Mama Marlaine. The book is an Amazon best seller, receiving five-star reviews. The book documents her journey from struggling Mom to international activist and underscores the value of embracing a new, more dynamic, compassionate curriculum for life skills education.
