John Lee Dumas grew up in Maine and graduated from Providence College. That same day, he became a commissioned officer in the US Army. He spent 8 years in the Army, serving a 13-month tour of duty in Iraq as an Armor Platoon Leader. When he left the service, he tried law school, working in corporate finance at John Hancock in Boston, and a tech startup in New York City. Ultimately, he decided to head west and ended up in San Diego.
John worked in real estate in San Diego, but landed there in 2009, following the 2007 real estate crash. Not good timing. As he had to drive so much during his days, he was looking for interesting content to listen to. A friend suggested podcasts, which he had never heard of. Once he realized they were full of free, on demand content, he was all over it. Starting with mainstream podcasts like NPR, he soon turned to shows like Pat Flynn’s Smart Passive Income and Jaime Master’s Eventual Millionaire and soon realized that there were no podcasts out there that interviewed successful entrepreneurs each day.
The concept was born: a daily podcast that would tell the story of the entrpreneur, what their AH-HA moment was and the steps they took to turn that moment into success. A passion was born. His goal was to provide as much value as possible and gain followers that were benefiting from the podcast.
EOFire (Entrepreneur on Fire) was launched on September 22, 2012. His recipe for success is: Create free, valuable, and consistent content. The community he has built from the podcast he calls Fire Nation. That community has also been the catalyst for his other communites and online training programs, Podcasters’ Paradise, WebinarOnFire, and The Fire Path.
John has interviewed such entrepreneurs as Tony Robbins, Seth Godin, Gary Vaynerchuk, Barbara Corcoran, Tim Ferriss, Brian Tracy, and over 1500 others. The show was named Best of iTunes in 2013. EOFire generates 7 figures in revenue annually and Dumas continues to openly share his income breakdown in a monthly report on his site, verified by a CPA.
Recently, John launched The Freedom Journal, a faux leather-bound journal to help individuals set and accomplish a goal in 100 days. He launched The Freedom Journal through a Kickstarter campaign in January 2016. With over $350,000 pledged in only 33 days, it became one of the most funded publishing campaigns in the history of Kickstarter.
TUNE IN to this episode as John chats with Steve, Mary and Richard about Reinventing Goals and how to accomplish your #1 goal in 100 days.
