Valerie Sheppard was born in Quantico, Virginia, though she lived in seven states growing up. A graduate of George Mason University, Valerie holds a bachelor’s degree in Speech Communication, and an MBA with dual concentration in Marketing in Transportation and Distribution Management from the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University, graduating with honors.
Valerie is also an actor and dancer, which became apparent as a toddler. In 2004, she earned the title of Ms. American Queen 2004 and in 2006, as Mail Carrier Carla, she was a recurring cast member of the Emmy-nominated children’s show “Hip Hop Harry,” on Discovery Kids and TLC. One of her latest endeavors is performing with the award-winning, professional improvisational comedy troupe, ImprovCity, where she’s been voted Player of the Month.
As a child, Valerie was called “bossy” by her peers. With her Dad being a Marine, she may have been emulating some of what she learned from him, but eventually it became apparent that what appeared to be bossiness was in fact a great leadership ability.
Her 28-year marketing career was focused on cause-related marketing and helping non-profits strengthen communication as well as grow their memberships. She consulted for Procter & Gamble and Zyman Group and was Vice President of Marketing in the $2.5 billion dollar Grocery Division of ConAgra Foods, where she managed a portfolio of national and regional brands.
Despite a lifetime of accomplishments and recognition, Valerie was discontented with and restless in her life. She felt as though something important was missing and decided to work through this painful feeling in order to transform herself. Her path to self-discovery eventually led her to leave the corporate world and launch her own unique business, The Heart of Living Vibrantly™. Certified Professionally Qualified to teach by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (equivalent to a Ph.D), Valerie also teaches marketing classes at the Paul Merage School of Business at UCI .
She is a certified Sacred Contracts coach, and has been trained in compassionate communication, spiritual direction and HeartMath. Her clients and students are healing past wounds, overcoming obstacles, and empowering themselves to create more vibrant lives and thriving businesses.
Valerie is 2015 winner of the Evolutionary Business Council’s Unstoppable Award, and was nominated by UCI students for the Staff Ally of the Year Award. Other recognition includes the 2013 Life Enrichment Award from Rock Life, a 2012 nomination for both the Orange County Business Journal’s Women in Business Award, and the National Association of Female Executives Rising Star Award.
She is a co-author of the national best-seller, Everything is Subject to Change, a co-author and featured transformational teacher in Amazing Woman: What’s Your Story? by bestselling author Marsh Engle, has been published in award-winning [11:11]™ Magazine, and is a Featured Luminary on InspireMeToday.com™.
